The wide world of condoms is always growing. There’s always something new on the market claiming to be the best option. The thinnest, the most enjoyable experience. You get the idea. The marketing definitely focuses on how a condom can feel like it isn’t even there.
Since how condoms feel can really affect your sexual experience it’s easy to see why this is the marketing tactic. A new type of condom has entered the chat, though. The Galactic Cap condom covers just strategic parts of the penis, leaving more exposed and a theoretical better time for all involved.
But are they safe? Do they work? Let’s talk about the research out there so far and see what everyone has to say. Are Galactic Caps all they claim to be? Let’s keep talking.
What Is A Galactic Cap?
A Galactic Cap is a type of condom made out of medical grade adhesive called Tagaderm. They cover the tip of the penis and go down the shaft, leaving skin exposed on both sides and at the base. They do not go on in the traditional sense you are used to. Because of this, it is going to take some practice working with the instructions to get a good seal.
You and your partner may want to practice putting this type of condom on and removing it a few times (a new condom each time) to make sure you’re comfortable with it. The last thing you want is a seal that isn’t strong enough not to leak during sex. A real risk with this type of condom.
Are They Approved By The FDA?
This answer is two fold. It’s not yet approved by the FDA as a condom but the materials used are medical grade and approved by the FDA. If you’re looking for something more surefire and don’t want to have risk of STD transmission or pregnancy, this might not be the condom for you. Stick to the traditional options that have the FDA seal of approval.
How Does A Galactic Cap Work?
It works by forming a tight seal over the hole in the penis as seen above in the directions. The seal captures all of the semen and the cap is removed after sex. You can use baby oil to loosen the adhesive or urinate into the condom until it releases.
It’s important to note that these condoms are hard to put on. Condoms are something that should be fool proof to ensure that no one is going to use them incorrectly. You can see that couples who have tried them have mentioned having leaking issues more than once.
If you’re going to give these a try be sure that you and your partner are ready to discuss what would happen in all cases of a leak. Are you ready to take that risk? If you are then this could be a good option for you.

Is A Galactic Cap Better Than A Traditional Condom?
At this point probably not. But that doesn’t mean you can’t try them if you’re willing to try something still being developed. It also doesn’t mean that you can’t try them in the future when more of the kinks have been ironed out. It’s all about how much risk you want to take.
Talk with your partner and see how they feel. Is how the condom feels more important to them than how much it protects you both? Then a Galactic Cap might be a good option for you. As long as you’re both happy with your choice, enjoy getting down and dirty. It might be fun to see how different it feels.
